Eleanor Health, a provider focused on evidence-based care for substance use and mental health conditions, announced the expansion of virtual outpatient services throughout New Mexico to increase addiction treatment access for individuals facing barriers to care.

The virtual program provides Medications for Assisted Treatment (MAT), therapy, peer recovery services, and mental health care remotely. According to the organization’s leadership: “With our launch in New Mexico, we’re bringing evidence-based addiction and mental health care to a state that needs it, without adding to the stigma that keeps people from asking for help” (William McKinney, CEO).

Growing Addiction Treatment Need for Accessible Care in New Mexico

New Mexico faces a significant behavioral health provider shortage, with more than 1.3 million residents living in a designated mental health shortage area and the existing workforce meeting only about 30% of statewide need. More than 21% of New Mexico residents aged 12 and older experienced a substance use disorder in the past year, and nearly 75% of those needing treatment did not receive it.
